Common questions

Frequently asked before searching

How to find a person with a photo?

The fastest free way is Google Images or Yandex reverse image search; they show where the exact same photo appears. If the photo is cropped or is a different shot of the same person, that won't suffice — you need a face search engine that searches face geometry, not copies of the file.

How long does a search take?

Usually under a minute. The report page updates automatically, so you can leave it open. During peak times searches may queue up, but the page will still deliver results without requiring any action.

Are my card details secure?

Payments are processed through Stripe and card details go directly to Stripe — they never touch detsherlock servers, and we never see or store them. All we receive is the amount, currency and Stripe transaction ID.

Can I access the report again after paying?

Yes. The report is linked to your account and can be opened anytime from the "My Searches" page at no extra charge. If you delete it, both the report and the photo are removed.

Is my photo stored, can others see it?

Your photo is stored only for as long as your report exists, and you can delete it from your account at any time. detsherlock never indexes or sells your photo. When a search runs, the photo is sent to the matching infrastructure; it goes nowhere else.

What is the difference from Google reverse image search?

Google reverse image search looks for exact copies of the file; crop it slightly and it finds nothing. detsherlock searches facial geometry, meaning it can find completely different photos of the same person.

What happens if the search finds nothing?

Your report clearly states this. The search genuinely ran across the entire index, costing us a search credit, so it is non-refundable — but no results is also valuable information: that face does not appear in our indexed sources. If a search fails for technical reasons, we re-run it for free.

Search scenarios

Start based on what you want to find

The same face search starts from a different angle depending on your question. Pick what is closest to your goal; they all lead to the same upload step.
